The Renwick Method

Pilates teachers in Brookline

Every teacher here holds a comprehensive classical certification and continues to take class weekly, which is why a cue given on Tuesday is the cue given on Saturday. Photographs and the next class each teaches come from the roster below; the longer biographies follow.

The roster shows every teacher taking class this week and the next class each of them leads.

In their own words

A teacher supporting a client's position on the reformer

Margaret Renwick

Studio director

Margaret certified comprehensively in New York in 1996 and taught for eleven years, latterly inside a physiotherapy practice, before opening this studio in 2009. She teaches the six o'clock reformer class four mornings a week and still takes class herself on Thursdays. She is the one who will stop a room to rebuild a single foot position, and she would rather a client took Fundamentals a third time than moved on early.

A teacher working through a stretch with a client

Tomás Beaulieu

Teacher

Tomás danced for nine years with a company in Montréal and came to the classical work through the injury that ended it. He teaches Mat & Tower and most of the evening reformer classes, and he is unusually precise about the breath — expect to be asked to start an exercise again because you inhaled on the wrong count.

A teacher setting a client's position at the tower

Aisha Mensah

Teacher

Aisha teaches Fundamentals and privates, and has taken more first-time clients through the order than anyone else here. She trained in mat work first, which shows in how long she will spend on the ribs and the pelvis before anyone is allowed near a spring. She also keeps the studio's referral notes, and reads them.
