Questions before a first class

Each answer begins with the answer. If what you need is not here, telephone (617) 555 0129 — the desk is staffed between classes.

IWhat should I wear to my first class?

Leggings or shorts and a top that stays in place when you invert. Grip socks are required; they are sold at the desk. Avoid anything loose — a teacher needs to see the knee and the hip to correct them.

IIDo you sell grip socks?

Yes, at the desk, and they are yours to keep.

IIIHow early should I arrive?

Ten minutes before a first class and five thereafter. That is enough to be shown the apparatus and have your springs set without delaying the room.

IVWhat happens if I am late?

The door remains open for the first five minutes. After that we cannot admit you mid-sequence, as the order is continuous. The class is deducted, but telephone and we will usually move it.

VWhere do I park?

Metered parking runs along Beacon Street and the Green Line stops at the door. The nearest garage is on Harvard Street, about six minutes on foot.

VIWhat is the cancellation policy?

Cancellations are free until twelve hours before the class; after that the class is deducted and cannot be reinstated, as the apparatus has been reserved.

VIIIs Pilates good for back pain?

Frequently, and this is the studio local physiotherapists refer to — but it depends on the cause. Book a private first so a teacher can read your notes and build around the restriction rather than guess at it in a group of eight.

VIIIWhat is the difference between reformer and mat Pilates?

The reformer adds springs: resistance you can measure, and a carriage that shows a poor line immediately. Mat work uses your own weight alone. The reformer is easier to learn correctly and harder to cheat.
